A chance to slow down, connect with friends, listen to music, make discoveries.
a gathering of all kinds of folk
Manchester Folk Festival is an annual urban folk festival.
Every autumn we present an exhilarating range of events, with the spotlight on English folk, roots and acoustic music.
This is a festival of discovery. We have our roots firmly in the traditions of the past, and our eyes on the future. The festival will bring some of the biggest names in folk to Manchester, and it will introduce you to your future favourites.
Contemporary folk straddles genres, embraces different cultures and absorbs new influences. Manchester Folk Festival's aim is to profile the incredible range of great music that is described as folk and bring you the best of the current scene.

Where and When?
This year it runs from Thursday 15 - Sunday 18 October 2020
The whole festival takes place in one corner of the city centre, across a handful of great venues, all within a few minutes' walk from each other.
HOME is the main hub of the festival. An exciting, welcoming
and accessible venue, you could easily stay here for the whole festival, taking in some great gigs, eating, drinking, and soaking up the atmosphere.
Other venues to be announced soon.

Who's behind it?
You may well be familiar with Festival Director David Agnew. He was the driving force behind Homegrown - the predecessor to Manchester Folk Festival - and the Artistic Director of The Met and Head for the Hills festival in Ramsbottom.
He also programmes artists for other events such as Timber Festival and The Lost Carnival.
David is joined by a merry team of creative types, folk enthusiasts and chatty people, who will weave together a fantastic festival.
We look forward to meeting you.
We’re thrilled to be working with HOME. This beautiful venue will be our home for the course of the festival. It will host many of the performances, sell the tickets and act as the festival hub.
Head here for a friendly welcome, a place to meet up with friends, and the best (vegetarian) shepherd’s pie known to humankind.
Our friends at fRoots are our media partners, and we’re very grateful to the team there for their wonderful generosity and hard work.
Manchester has the fortune to be the host city of the annual English Folk Expo. This is an international music industry event, which brings delegates, by invitation only, to a showcase of English folk music. These are music professionals, and here to do business. They will go to as many of the gigs as they can get to over Manchester Folk Festival, to see what will work in their own venues and festivals, and then book them. So if you see people moving in and out of the concerts, this is why.
English Folk Expo perform a vital role for the folk scene and we are proud to be a key part of it.
