A singer, multi-instrumentalist and dancer from West Yorkshire, Alice Jones is deeply rooted in the English folk tradition. First exposed to folk music as a babe in arms through her parents - both keen attendees of folk clubs in the 70’s - Alice has been performing at festivals and teaching workshops around the country since the age of 12.
She sings mostly traditional songs, accompanying herself on the piano or harmonium. Although immersed in the English folk tradition, she is also influenced by her early training as an Appalachian clogger, and love of American folk traditions, incorporating body percussion into her performances.
The sensitive arrangements of each song allow the stories to take centre stage and, inspired by her beginnings as a percussive dancer, they are loaded with a rhythm and energy that portrays her dancer’s heartbeat.
“Superb, sincere vocals – meltingly fine music.”
- Verity Sharpe, BBC Radio 3
