Matthew Bannister Presents...
Folk on Foot on Film
Saturday 19 October, 1.30pm-2.30pm
£14 (+ booking fee)
How do you cope when your singing is interrupted by a hen laying an egg? What happened when Martin Simpson made an emotional return to his childhood home? What was it like to shelter from the rain in an Irish shibeen with Cara Dillon and Sam Lakeman performing a private concert for one?
Broadcaster Matthew Bannister takes you behind the scenes of his award-winning podcast, Folk on Foot.
Folk on Foot is a simple idea – he goes for a walk with a top folk artist in the landscape that inspired their music, and they perform on location.
In this new live show he shares the many hours of film footage he’s shot along the way, featuring artists including: Karine Polwart, Seth Lakeman, Cara Dillon, The Young’uns, Steve Knightley of Show of Hands, Eliza Carthy (and Family), Martin Simpson, Julie Fowlis, Jon Boden, Kerry Andrew/You Are Wolf, Nancy Kerr, Duncan Chisholm and more - often performing against spectacular backdrops.
Matthew tells the stories of the making of the podcast in locations as diverse as the beautiful isolation of Sandwood Bay near Cape Wrath, Fala Moor in Midlothian, the Exe Trail and Dartmoor in Devon, the coasts of North Yorkshire and Cornwall, the Sussex Downs, Dungiven in Northern Ireland and the more industrial settings of Scunthorpe and Hartlepool.
